Young Zoey G is sugar, spice, and hitting the music scene with her first single, “Runaway.” Influenced by pop, latin, EDM and a dash of about everything you can think of, the LA-based singer-songwriter is a fresh face with a great new sound, and she needs to be on your radar. Also a multi-instrumentalist, Zoey G isn’t afraid to branch out and explore new things, and we can’t wait for her EP! Check out the interview below:
How does it feel to drop your first single?
It feels a bit daunting yet amazing. Putting something out into the world that you created at only 16 years old can be kind of scary, but on the other hand it is amazing to be able to create something that is a part of me and show the world.
Can you say anything about your upcoming EP, Runaway?
I can say that for sure one song off of the EP will be stuck in your head for days, haha.
What’s your story, how did you get to be where you are with music?
It all started from a very early age of four years old. My parents decided to put me into piano lessons, as my older brother had been playing for a few years before I began. Even before that, music was always a constant thing in my house growing up. My brother would be blasting his late 90s and early 2000s pop hits in his room, which was directly across from mine, and my dad would be playing his favorite 80s pop/rock hits. Music became a very normal thing to me due to that early exposure. Even though I had to learn and practice classical music for my piano lessons, I’d always find myself getting off track and playing something that I made up in my head. As I grew up, music was a great way for me to vent and have fun. I fell in love with it when I was 13 and focused really intensely on it. For the past three years I just focused on bettering my craft and learned new instruments on the way.
Has anyone told you that “Runaway” and Camila Cabello’s “Havana” would make a great mash-up?
Not yet, haha. But, I could definitely agree as they both have a latin vibe going on.
You’ve grown up around a lot of music from different genres across different decades, so if you had to choose a favorite artist, who would your all-time favorite and current favorite be?
My favorite artist of all time probably would have to be Lady Gaga and my current favorite would have to be Camila Cabello.
What’s on the horizon for you next?
Next would be to release another single, my EP, and hopefully go on tour sometime soon!
