In the past few years, the emo/pop-punk/alternative rock sphere has seen a ton of change, from My Chemical Romance breaking up to Fall Out Boy coming back from hiatus with a brand-new sound, and now Vans Warped Tour is coming to an end? Although, honestly, I’m still not over Jason Lancaster leaving Mayday Parade, and that was all the way back in in 2007.
But I’m getting sidetracked.
So where have all the emo bands gone? It’s not the same music scene, and a lot of bands still of the genre have reinvented themselves, as people will do. Still, I’m betting that there will be an emergence of new emo-pop-punk music in the near future, and one band to watch for is Violet Night.
They just announced that their debut album will be released in May, and I just can’t take the wait. Violet Night dabbles more in piano riffs than guitar solos, employ a little more soul than screamo, but they’ve got the fundamental sound of classic pop-punk with new indie-pop heart and fresh faces.
I’ve just got a taste of Violet Night’s upcoming album, and it’s both refreshing and nostalgic at the same time. I cannot wait for you all to hear it and have Violet Night kick off your summer! So for now, check out their latest video for “Young Guns,” which dropped last week.
