If someone had told me a year ago that I would be running 5ks with my boyfriend, I would have laughed.
I’ve talked about health and fitness before on the blog, you all know my workout playlist revenge body., and for the past couple of months I have been training to run my first 5k race with my gentleman caller.
Last weekend we tripped down to Blacksburg to meet up with friends and family, and prepped for the Virginia Tech Run in Remembrance the next morning. This memorial run is 3.2 miles to honor the 32 victims of the school shooting in 2007.
Some people ran to remember their friends, family, or fellow students, some ran to represent their community, some ran for other reasons. I think I ran to celebrate overcoming physical hardship, and I had some amazing support to help me do it.
I wouldn’t say that it was straightforward run, there were twists and turns and bumps and hills, but oh my word, I had an amazing time. It certainly helped that my GC was right beside me wearing this:
My favorite reaction–and there were many–was a little kid saying, “HI MR. HORSEY!” GC also ended up accidentally running into and knocking over a recycling bin full of plastic cups around the 2.5 mile mark. Oh yeah, he’s a keeper.
We also made it to the Virginia Tech Instagram feed! We’re a few photos in, leading a pack of runners. Just look for the guy in the horse mask.
He’s a much more seasoned runner, but since I’m a novice, I thought we made great time! 41:30 is my time to beat for next race!
Until next race!
