This little corner of the internet, my blog, turns one year old today!
This little corner of the internet, my blog, turned one year old! A lot has happened in a year, if you can believe it. I could write a thousand words on the things that I’ve learned and experienced, but firstly I just want to say thank you. Thank you for reading, supporting, and showing up to the party. The people I’ve met, the friends I’ve made, the music I’ve listened to, all have made what I do worthwhile, so I must say thank you.
There are a lot of things that have made me really proud in the past year, so I thought I would go through some of the highlights.
For one, I got a lot more comfortable in front of the camera. Essentially, I went from this:
Photography has become one of my favorite things, and I’ve loved getting to take some amazing pictures, like these:
And of course, there is the music. Oh, the music.
The two posts that I had written even before starting Indierella were my interview with Finnish pop-star turned indie songstress Jonna and a collection of interviews with trans women on bandcamp. Initially I wanted this blog to focus just on female artists on the indie music scene, but instead I’ve found so many artists and creatives that are worth being seen.
One of my favorite things is how some of the people I’ve written about have 20,000 likes on Facebook, while others have a few hundred. Some have toured internationally and some are just getting started. I’m so lucky to have connected with incredible creatives, and it only goes to show how much talent there is in this world.
Another part of Indierella that I’ve grown to love is the blogging aspect. There is a whole community of bloggers that I had no idea existed, but thanks to social media, I’ve been able to learn, meet some great people in real life and online, and grow to where I never thought I could!
Now, it only seems fair that I shout out some of my fellow bloggers who I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know along the way: Stephi of Surviving Millennial, who stans me from afar and who shows me how to stop thinking and just write, Alex of Basic Blogger B*tch who added me to an engagement group where I made a bunch of cool friends, and who is such an inspiration and boss babe, Kim of Romanov’s Views who is my pen pal, Secret Santa buddy, and flatlay queen, Shante of Herosa Wraps, who I technically met on a blogging group but she’s really more of an Instagramming entrepreneur, and Koral Dawn of The Unsanity, who is such a gem and an encouragement to keep going even when things are hard! Bloggers are just incredible, and I’m so lucky to be a part of this incredible community.
I could sit here and thank all the brands, companies, individuals, and PR folks that I’ve gotten to collaborate with, all the people who have told me they liked my style or that I seem really real–I could go on and on!
But to make things short, I just have to say: wow. It’s been a crazy, wonderful, intense, amazing year. I love what I do and I love getting to interact with so many amazing people to share music and creativity.
I hope to keep growing, sharing, and playing good music. You all have my love and my gratitude.
